Bucket Wheel Reclaimer Shaft

Client: Quebec Cartier Mining
Date: January 31, 2000

Metal 7 is not only known for its coatings and combustion it also has a machining section complete with its coating sections. Metal 7, also provides fabrication of precision parts and heavy equipment assembly which can weigh many tons.

In this present case, Quebec Cartier Mining, Port-Cartier, Quebec, Canada, has contracted Metal 7 to custom build a new bucket wheel shaft for their stacker-reclaimer. This stacker-reclaimer is used at the iron ore pellet stock pile area to disperse and recuperate material piled to load aboard shipping vessels. These bucket wheel shafts also contains the hubs (center) of the wheels.

The shaft is fabricated in cast steel, which contains high levels of carbon. As for the hub, it is fabricated with mild steel. Due to their large dimensions, tolerances are strict. Operating conditions are very severe and that is why full penetration weldments require a special inspection by a specialised firm.

Metal 7 provides its customers with custom built products including coatings according to customer’s requests and/or specifications. This bucket wheel shaft that is custom built for Quebec Cartier Mining is one of many examples of our experienced specialities.
