Pulp and Paper Refiners are sophisticated equipment and are vital to the Pulp and Paper industry. This is why customer’s plants are very critical of the quality of repairs performed on this type of equipment. Especially, in regards to the work performed which meets safety standards.

Conscious of these high quality expectations, Metal 7 has developed a very strict specification of repairs for the refurbishing of a large number of refiner components, such as: shafts, disks, gear boxes, babbit thrust pads (with or without RTD’s), seal rings, etc. In the repairs of shaft bearing surfaces, analysis is done by the finite element method, to determine the impact and which repair procedure has on the integrity of the mechanical properties. Thanks to previous results attained by using this method, we have proven that our methods used are safe and the maintenance life of components, are much more economical than simply replacing with a new shaft.
